Jalandhar: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Enforcement Directorate’s senior-most officer in Jalandhar has been transferred shortly after the agency issued summons to former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and his son in connection with an alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Additional Director Ravi Tewari, a 2009-batch Indian Revenue Service officer who had been heading the ED’s Jalandhar unit since September 2023, has been reassigned to Chennai. He will be succeeded by Additional Director Dinesh Pachauri.

The transfer order comes within days of the ED calling Amarinder Singh and his son, Raninder Singh, for questioning. Raninder was directed to appear before investigators on Thursday, while the former chief minister was asked to join the probe on Friday.

However, neither appeared before the agency. Sources indicated that Amarinder Singh is currently admitted to a private hospital in Mohali, where he is undergoing treatment related to knee surgery. It remains unclear whether fresh dates will be issued for their appearance.

Though the Enforcement Directorate has not officially linked Tewari’s transfer to the ongoing case, the timing has drawn attention in political circles. Observers note that the reshuffle coincides with heightened scrutiny involving the senior leader, who is currently associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Officials have maintained that transfers within the agency are routine administrative decisions. Meanwhile, the FEMA investigation continues, with the ED expected to take further steps after reviewing medical documentation and deciding on the next course of action.
