Bashkortostan Republic: At least six people, including four Indian students, were injured in a knife attack at a university hostel in Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic on Saturday, triggering a major security response and a high-level investigation by local authorities. (Russia Attack News)

The incident took place at a dormitory of the State Medical University in Ufa, where a teenage assailant allegedly entered the residential facility and attacked students with a knife. Russia’s Interior Ministry confirmed that several residents were wounded before police intervened.

During the arrest, the attacker reportedly resisted custody, injuring two police officers in the process and later harming himself. Interior Ministry spokesperson Major General Irina Volk said the suspect was subdued and taken into custody following the confrontation. (Russia Attack News)

The Indian Embassy described the incident as “unfortunate” and confirmed that four Indian students were among those injured. It said it is coordinating closely with Russian authorities and has dispatched officials from the Consulate General in Kazan to Ufa to assist the affected students and ensure medical and consular support.

According to the Russian Federal Health Ministry, four of the injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at local hospitals. One patient remains in critical condition, while three others are reported to be stable with moderate injuries. The alleged attacker, identified by local media as a 15-year-old, has also been hospitalised in serious condition at a children’s medical facility.

Law enforcement agencies in Ufa, located around 1,200 kilometres east of Moscow, have launched an intensive probe to determine the motive behind the attack. Some Russian media outlets and Telegram channels have claimed the suspect may have had links to an outlawed extremist group, though officials have yet to formally confirm these allegations.

Eyewitness accounts described scenes of chaos inside the dormitory, with emergency services rushing multiple injured students to hospitals. Authorities have tightened security in and around the campus as investigations continue.
