Amritsar: Punjab Police have intensified efforts to dismantle a cross-border drug smuggling network after registering an FIR under the NDPS Act at Gharinda police station and launching a probe to trace both forward and backward links of the syndicate. The operation aims to eliminate the entire network at its roots, officials said.

In a major breakthrough, the rural police in Amritsar district busted an international cross-border narcotics racket and arrested two accused persons. During the operation, the police recovered 51.5 kilograms of heroin packed in 103 packets from their possession. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth several crores of rupees in the international market.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav also shared details of the action on social media, underlining the force’s commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused were in direct contact with handlers based in Pakistan and were actively involved in smuggling narcotics across the border. A detailed forensic examination of their mobile phones led to the recovery of crucial digital evidence, including call records and chat messages, shedding light on the depth and reach of the smuggling network.

Punjab Police reiterated that its campaign against narco-terrorism and drug trafficking will continue relentlessly. Officials said all necessary and strict measures will be taken to make the state drug-free and ensure public safety.
