Ludhiana: In a rare incident in Jagraon, Ludhiana, seven members of a single family, including five children, were brought to the Civil Hospital after showing symptoms suggestive of rabies. The family, comprising a migrant worker living in a factory quarters and his wife, reported issues such as excessive salivation and difficulty in speaking.

Following initial examinations, the Civil Hospital referred the family to PGI Chandigarh for further testing. According to Senior Medical Officer Gurbinder Kaur, the latest PGI report found no signs of rabies in any of the seven family members. PGI has recommended follow-up testing after one week as a precautionary measure.

The symptoms reportedly appeared nearly a year after a stray dog had bitten the family members, for which no treatment had been administered at the time. PGI has also coordinated with Sector 16, Chandigarh, where rabies treatment facilities are available, for any further medical management if required.

Authorities have urged families to seek immediate medical attention and complete post-exposure prophylaxis in case of dog bites to prevent such scares.
