Jammu: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel thwarted an attempted infiltration along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district late Sunday night, shooting dead a Pakistani national who was trying to cross into Indian territory, officials said.
According to security sources, the incident took place in the Majra area of the Ramgarh sector, where alert border troops detected suspicious movement near a border outpost during routine night surveillance. The individual was seen approaching the fence under the cover of darkness, prompting soldiers to issue repeated warnings.
When the intruder failed to comply and continued advancing, BSF personnel opened fire in accordance with established protocols, neutralising him on the spot, officials added.
The body of the deceased was found lying close to the International Border, and the area has been secured to prevent any further breach. A detailed search and verification exercise is scheduled to be carried out at daybreak, after which additional information is expected to be released.
Security agencies have intensified vigilance along the border in view of persistent infiltration attempts, maintaining heightened alert levels to safeguard the frontier and prevent cross-border intrusions.
