Imphal, Manipur: Security forces recovered and safely neutralised 27 country-made bombs in Manipur’s Imphal East district, police confirmed on Friday.
According to officials, the explosives were discovered during a search operation conducted on Thursday near Monglham village. A senior police officer said the bombs were later defused at a secure location to prevent any potential threat to civilians. Manipur Police shared details of the operation on social media, stating that the explosives were neutralised near the Monglham village area under Thoubal Dam police station limits.
In a separate operation earlier this week, security personnel also recovered three firearms along with ammunition from the Langdum Nungjengbi area of the same district. The recoveries form part of ongoing search and combing operations being carried out across the state.
Security forces have intensified operations in Manipur following ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. The prolonged unrest has claimed over 260 lives and forced thousands of people to flee their homes, leading to a serious humanitarian and law-and-order crisis in the state.
Amid continuing instability, the Centre imposed President’s Rule in Manipur after Chief Minister N Biren Singh stepped down. Although the state legislative assembly’s term runs until 2027, it has currently been placed under suspended animation.
