Fatehgarh Sahib: Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Thursday reviewed the security and traffic management arrangements to ensure the smooth, secure and orderly conduct of the three-day annual Shaheedi Sabha at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.
The Shaheedi Sabha, which began on Thursday, is held every year to pay homage to Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, and their grandmother Mata Gujri. During his visit, the DGP was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General Nanak Singh and Fatehgarh Sahib Senior Superintendent of Police Shubham Aggarwal.
Yadav said the entire area has been systematically divided into six sectors, with more than 3,400 police personnel deployed under the supervision of six superintendent-rank officers and 24 deputy superintendent-rank officers to ensure foolproof security throughout the congregation. He emphasised that the safety, comfort and smooth movement of the sangat remain the top priority for Punjab Police.
“Our foremost duty is to ensure the safety, comfort and smooth movement of the sangat. Punjab Police is performing this responsibility as sewa and will guide and facilitate the devotees with humility and dedication,” the DGP said, adding that personnel have been instructed to maintain a courteous, people-friendly approach while remaining vigilant.
Highlighting special measures taken this year, Yadav said a ‘no vehicle’ zone has been enforced within a 200-metre radius of the gurdwara, while 22 designated parking locations have been created. E-rickshaw, auto-rickshaw and shuttle bus services have been arranged to ferry devotees from parking areas to the shrine.
To strengthen traffic management, Punjab Police has collaborated with Google for real-time geo-tagging of parking locations, and directional signboards have been installed at key points to guide pilgrims. For enhanced surveillance, six drones and around 300 hi-tech CCTV cameras have been deployed to monitor crowd movement, traffic flow and parking areas, along with strict vigilance against anti-social elements.
The DGP further said six integrated help desks providing police assistance, medical aid and fire services have been set up for devotees. An integrated control room, public assistance kiosks, special contingency response teams and round-the-clock surveillance through social media monitoring, special branch inputs and intelligence networks have also been activated to prevent any untoward incident.
