Chandigarh: Popular Punjabi rapper and music producer Yo Yo Honey Singh has landed in fresh controversy after a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary in Punjab submitted a complaint to the state’s Director General of Police, alleging that the singer’s latest release contains objectionable content.

According to reports, BJP Punjab co-convenor Arvind Sharma has objected to Honey Singh’s recently launched Punjabi song “Naagin”, describing it as indecent and inappropriate. In his representation to the DGP, Sharma urged the police to register a case against the artist and those associated with the song, and also called for the video to be taken down from all digital streaming platforms, including YouTube.

Sharma alleged that the music video features scenes and dance sequences that he termed vulgar, arguing that such content runs contrary to the values and traditions associated with Punjabi culture. He claimed that the portrayal of women in the video is disrespectful and damages the cultural identity of the state under the guise of modern entertainment.

The BJP leader further stated that Punjabi culture has historically upheld dignity and respect, particularly towards women, and that songs with explicit visuals undermine these principles. He also raised concerns about the availability of the video online without strict age restrictions, warning that unrestricted access could have a harmful influence on children and adolescents.

Calling the issue one of public concern, Sharma demanded swift and stringent legal action against Yo Yo Honey Singh and others involved in the production and release of the song. At the time of reporting, there was no official response from the singer or his team, and Punjab Police had not commented on whether an FIR would be registered.

The matter is expected to be examined by the authorities following the submission of the complaint.
