KUTCH, Gujarat: A young Pakistani couple was detained by the Border Security Force (BSF) after they made an arduous overnight journey on foot, crossing the international border into Gujarat’s Kutch district. The couple had reportedly eloped from their homes after their families opposed their marriage.

The BSF personnel detained the duo, identified as Popat (24) and Gauri (20), near pillar number 1016 on Monday, shortly after they crossed into Indian territory. According to an official from the Balasar police station, the couple fled their village in Pakistan, located approximately 8 km from the international border, on Sunday night and covered the distance on foot.

During initial questioning, the couple confessed that they had chosen to cross the high-security border as a drastic measure to be together, given the severe opposition to their relationship from their families. An FIR is yet to be registered in the case, and the concerned security and intelligence agencies are expected to carry out further investigation into the matter.

Police noted that this is the second such incident in the area within the last two months, with two other individuals similarly detained at the border on October 8.
