New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Saturday confirmed the recovery of the body of a toddler, estimated to be around two-and-a-half years old, from a sewer in the Khera Khurd locality.

According to officials, the child had fallen into the sewer earlier in the day, prompting a joint rescue operation by the Delhi Fire Services and local police. Emergency teams rushed to the site soon after receiving the distress call.

A spokesperson for the Delhi Fire Services said that personnel worked extensively at the scene in an attempt to save the boy. “We received information about the incident and immediately began rescue efforts in coordination with the police. Unfortunately, the child was found unresponsive,” the official said.

Police stated that the body has been sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The area has been cordoned off as authorities continue their investigation.

Local residents have expressed shock over the incident and raised concerns about the safety of open or unsecured sewer lines in the vicinity.
