Dhaka, Bangladesh:A 5.7-magnitude earthquake shook Bangladesh on Friday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

The tremor occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), increasing the potential for noticeable shaking at the surface. Authorities have not yet reported any casualties or significant structural damage.

Residents in parts of Bangladesh reportedly felt the quake, but early assessments suggest that most buildings, particularly in urban areas, withstood the tremor without major impact.

Seismologists are monitoring aftershocks, which often follow earthquakes of this magnitude, and have advised people to remain cautious, especially in older or poorly constructed buildings.

No tsunami or other secondary hazards were expected, according to local disaster management officials. The Bangladesh government and local authorities continue to assess affected areas and will provide updates if necessary.
