New Delhi— Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport have seized 1.2 kg of gold concealed inside machine spare parts, leading to the arrest of a passenger who had arrived from Singapore.

Officials said the passenger was intercepted on November 15 after he landed at IGI Airport. During questioning, he admitted that a consignment he had come to collect contained around 1.2 kg of smuggled gold. The consignment, weighing 10.8 kg, was awaiting clearance at the new courier terminal.

According to customs, the man claimed to be the CEO of a company dealing in machine spare parts. He revealed that gold had been hidden inside the spare parts of the shipment he was expecting.

When officials scanned the consignment, they detected suspicious images. A detailed examination later confirmed the presence of 1,200 grams of gold cleverly concealed within machine components.

The passenger has been arrested, and further investigation is underway, customs officials said.
