Vasai: A man has been arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) for allegedly pushing his 16-year-old niece off a fast local train in Vasai, leading to her death, officials said on Tuesday. The teenager’s body was found on the railway tracks over the Bhayander creek on Monday.

The breakthrough in the case came after a commuter reported witnessing the incident, enabling police to identify and arrest the accused, Arjun Soni. A GRP officer said the witness account played a crucial role in tracing the suspect.

Soni has been booked under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators are now working to determine the motive behind the alleged crime, officials added.
