Chandigarh: Students and government employees across Punjab will get a day off, with the state government announcing a public holiday on November 25 to commemorate the 350th martyrdom day of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

According to officials, all schools, colleges, universities, and government offices in the state will remain closed on Monday in observance of the historic day. Private institutions may also follow suit, though many are expected to confirm their schedules independently.

The state government said the holiday is intended to allow citizens to participate in prayers, remembrance ceremonies, and other events planned across Punjab to honor Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s legacy.

Cultural and religious organisations have scheduled special gatherings, including kirtan programmes, lectures on Guru Sahib’s life, and community service activities.

The announcement has been welcomed by students and educators, many of whom noted that the day provides an opportunity to reflect on the Guru’s contributions to humanity. Government departments have also issued notifications rescheduling official meetings planned for that date.

With the holiday now confirmed, Punjab is expected to see large participation at gurdwaras and commemorative events throughout the state on November 25.
