Chandigarh — The Punjab government has suspended Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh after an internal assessment revealed major lapses in handling the surge of gangster-related activities in the district.
Officials said several serious cases failed to receive timely investigation or adequate follow-up, raising concerns about ineffective policing and inadequate action against organised crime networks. The findings prompted immediate intervention from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
CM Mann ordered the suspension, stressing that law and order remain the state’s highest priority. He warned that any officer showing negligence during the ongoing crackdown on gangsters would face strict disciplinary action.
The move is being seen as a strong message to the police force across Punjab, underscoring the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward carelessness in security matters.
