PM Modi Meets Bhutan’s Fourth King, Extends Birthday Greetings and Strengthens Bilateral Ties

Thimphu— Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Bhutan’s Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, in Thimphu on Wednesday to convey warm greetings on the monarch’s 70th birthday and reaffirm India’s enduring friendship with the Himalayan nation.

Modi extended his best wishes and prayers on behalf of the Government and people of India for the Fourth King’s long life and good health. He also expressed gratitude for His Majesty’s leadership and invaluable guidance in deepening the historic and time-tested bond between the two countries.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders engaged in wide-ranging discussions on bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest, highlighting the shared spiritual, cultural, and historical ties that unite the people of India and Bhutan.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi joined the Fourth King, the current King of Bhutan, and Bhutanese Prime Minister at the Kalachakra initiation ceremony held at Changlimithang Stadium as part of the Global Peace Prayer Festival. The sacred event was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, Bhutan’s Chief Abbot.

Officials noted that Modi’s participation in the ceremony symbolized India’s respect for Bhutan’s spiritual heritage and reaffirmed the deep cultural and people-to-people connection that continues to define the partnership between the two nations.
