New Delhi/Quito: India and Ecuador have strengthened their bilateral relations by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on cooperation between their diplomatic training institutions. The agreement was finalized during a meeting between India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, and Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs, Gabriela Sommerfeld.

Officials stated that the two leaders held extensive discussions on expanding collaboration across several sectors, including trade, pharmaceuticals, training, and capacity building. Describing the talks as “fruitful,” Margherita emphasized both nations’ commitment to enhancing political and economic cooperation.

“Had a fruitful meeting with Gabriela Sommerfeld, Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs of Ecuador. Discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, including in political, trade, pharmaceuticals, training and capacity building and other areas of mutual priorities. Signed an MoU on cooperation between our diplomatic training institutions,” Margherita said.

During his visit, Margherita also engaged with various Ecuadorian ministers and senior officials to explore cooperation in agriculture, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, education, culture, tourism, textiles, health, and pharmaceuticals.

Reaffirming India’s focus on global partnerships, Margherita said, “India remains committed to working with Ecuador in the spirit of South-South cooperation.” The visit underlines New Delhi’s growing engagement with Latin American countries through technology exchange, training, and people-centric development initiatives.
