Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has announced that another aircraft carrier will be deployed as part of a broader military build-up amid escalating tensions with Iran.
Speaking to reporters, Donald Trump said the move is intended to reinforce American strength in the region while leaving the door open for a diplomatic resolution. “If they give us the right deal, we won’t have to take further action,” he said, referring to Tehran. “But historically, that hasn’t happened. There’s been a lot of talk over the years without meaningful action.”
The President criticised what he described as decades of stalled negotiations and rising hostilities, stating that the United States has paid a heavy price during prolonged tensions. He emphasised that Washington is prepared to increase its military presence if necessary, but maintained that a lasting agreement would be preferable.
According to Trump, “tremendous power” has already been positioned in the region, and an additional aircraft carrier strike group will be dispatched soon. While he did not specify the deployment timeline or destination, the statement signals a significant show of force as diplomatic uncertainties persist.
US-Iran relations have been strained for years over issues including regional security, military activities, and nuclear policy. Previous attempts at negotiations have seen periods of progress followed by renewed friction.
Trump reiterated that the United States remains open to dialogue but underscored that any agreement must address American security concerns. “If we can settle this once and for all, that would be good,” he said, adding that developments in the coming weeks would determine the next course of action.
The announcement is likely to draw international attention as Washington recalibrates its strategic posture in response to developments in West Asia.
