Trump Sues New York Times for $15 Billion Over Alleged Defamation

Washington: US President Donald Trump has filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and four of its journalists, accusing them of running a “decades-long campaign” to malign him.

The case, filed in a Florida district court on Monday, cites several articles and a book written by two journalists of the publication. According to court documents, Trump’s legal team claims these works were published “with knowledge of falsity” and in “reckless disregard for the truth.”

In his Truth Social post announcing the lawsuit, Trump called The New York Times a “mouthpiece for the Radical Left Democrat Party” and accused it of deliberately spreading lies about him.

This is not Trump’s first legal battle with the press. In July, he launched a $10 billion defamation suit against The Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch over a report linking him to late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The New York Times has not yet issued an official response to the lawsuit. Legal experts suggest the case could reignite debates over press freedom and the limits of political defamation claims in the United States.
