Washington — US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the United States will host next year’s Group of 20 (G20) summit at his Trump National Doral golf resort in Florida.
Trump said the decision came after requests from organisers. “Well, I think everybody wants it there,” he remarked when asked whether the gathering would be held at his property. The luxury resort, located near Miami, features a sprawling golf course and spa.
This is not the first time Trump has attempted to host a global event at the Doral venue. During his first term, he proposed the location for an international summit but withdrew after facing pushback from members of his own Republican Party, who raised concerns over ethics and the use of public office for private business gain.
The announcement is expected to reignite debate about Trump’s blending of his political role with his private business ventures. Supporters argue that the resort is equipped to handle a summit of this scale, while critics say the move raises questions about conflict of interest and propriety.
The G20 summit brings together leaders of the world’s major economies to discuss trade, financial systems, and global development. Hosting the 2026 summit at Doral will put Trump’s diplomacy and decision-making in sharp focus, as the event is set against the backdrop of complex international challenges.
