Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan: At least five people were killed and ten others injured in a suicide bombing during a wedding ceremony at the residence of a peace committee member in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province late Friday night, officials said.
District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada confirmed that the attack took place near Qureshi Mor at the house of Noor Alam Mehsud, head of a local peace committee, during a wedding function. The blast occurred while guests were dancing, causing panic and chaos at the venue.
The explosion was so powerful that it caused the roof of the room to collapse, trapping several people under the debris and severely hampering rescue operations. Emergency teams struggled to reach the injured due to the rubble, officials said.
Following the incident, an emergency was declared at the District Headquarters Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan to handle the influx of casualties. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi said that five bodies and ten injured persons were shifted to the hospital. He added that seven ambulances, a fire engine and a disaster response vehicle were dispatched to the spot immediately after receiving information about the blast, and rescue operations are still underway.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi strongly condemned the attack and sought a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police. He said those responsible for the bombing would be brought to justice and assured strict action against the perpetrators.
The attack comes amid a series of violent incidents targeting peace committee members in the region. Earlier this month, four members of a peace committee were shot dead by armed assailants in Bannu district. In November 2025, seven people were killed in an attack on a peace committee office in the same district, highlighting growing security concerns in the province.
