San Mateo Atenco (Mexico): At least seven people were killed on Monday afternoon after a small private jet crashed while attempting an emergency landing in the industrial zone of San Mateo Atenco in central Mexico, according to official reports.

The aircraft was flying from the Pacific coastal city of Acapulco to Toluca airport and was registered to carry ten people, including eight passengers and two crew members. Authorities said the plane went down after hitting the metal roof of a nearby industrial facility, triggering a massive fire at the crash site.

Mexico State Civil Protection Coordinator Adrián Hernández confirmed that seven bodies had been recovered following the incident. Emergency teams rushed to the area to control the blaze and conduct rescue operations amid thick smoke and debris.

San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muñiz supervised the evacuation of around 130 people from the surrounding industrial zone as a precautionary measure. Firefighters worked for several hours to extinguish the flames and secure the area.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of the crash, including the circumstances that led to the aircraft attempting an emergency landing. Further details are awaited.
