Kyiv — Russia unleashed a fresh barrage of strikes on Ukraine’s capital early Tuesday, hitting residential neighbourhoods and damaging critical energy infrastructure, according to local authorities and video shared on Telegram.
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko confirmed that a residential building in the central Pechersk district and another in the eastern Dniprovskyi district suffered extensive damage. Footage from Dniprovskyi showed flames engulfing several floors of a nine-storey apartment block, with smoke pouring into the night sky.
At least four people were injured in the assault, Kyiv city administration chief Tymofiy Tkachenko said. Emergency crews worked through the early hours to control the blaze and evacuate residents.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry reported that energy infrastructure had also been struck, though it did not give details on the location or level of destruction.
The latest attack came shortly after US and Ukrainian representatives held discussions in Geneva on Sunday regarding a US-Russia brokered peace framework. Oleksandr Bevz, a member of the Ukrainian delegation, described the meeting as “very constructive” and said both sides covered most aspects of the proposal.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Moscow had not yet reviewed the revised peace plan.
