Tehran: Iran on Sunday announced that it had carried out missile and drone attacks targeting American military installations in Kuwait and other locations across the Middle East, marking a dramatic escalation in the already volatile regional situation.
According to statements attributed to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, multiple ballistic missiles and drones were launched at what it described as a US naval facility in Kuwait’s Abdullah Mubarak area. The group claimed that key infrastructure at the base was destroyed and that several American personnel were killed or injured. Independent confirmation of these claims was not immediately available.
Iranian officials also asserted that unmanned aerial vehicles struck a vessel at the Jebel Ali anchorage, alleging it was carrying ammunition for US naval forces. Additionally, the Guard said a fuel-support ship operating in the Indian Ocean was hit during the operation, which it referred to as the fifth wave of “Operation True Promise.”
Explosions were reportedly heard in parts of Dubai and near Doha, fueling concerns that the confrontation could spill further into the Gulf. Airports and strategic sites in the region have faced disruptions as authorities heightened security measures.
The escalation follows coordinated US-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets a day earlier, an operation referred to in American and Israeli reports as Operation Epic Fury. The strikes reportedly hit several cities, including Tehran. Iranian state media has since confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in those attacks, a development that has triggered vows of retaliation from Tehran.
Iran’s leadership has framed the latest offensive as retribution, warning that further action against US and Israeli interests could follow. In a statement circulated through official channels, the Guard declared it would continue operations against what it called “enemy units.”
The unfolding crisis has drawn international alarm. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, urged an immediate halt to hostilities, cautioning that continued escalation could have severe global repercussions. The European Union and Russia have also called for restraint and dialogue to prevent the conflict from expanding further.
With both sides exchanging threats and claims, the region remains on edge, and global markets and diplomatic circles are closely watching for signs of either de-escalation or a broader military confrontation.
