Kathmandu — A wave of violent protests swept Nepal on Tuesday as Gen Z demonstrators set fire to the ruling Nepali Congress party’s central office in Sanepa. The escalation came just a day after 19 young protesters were killed in clashes with security forces, fueling nationwide anger and unrest.
The protests, which began as demonstrations against corruption and misgovernance, have intensified dramatically. On Tuesday morning, crowds hurled stones and attacked the homes of political leaders as well as party offices across the capital. Witnesses reported heavy arson and vandalism targeting ruling establishments.
Authorities responded by imposing curfews in several districts, including key areas of Kathmandu Valley, to prevent further violence. Security forces remain deployed in large numbers amid fears of more confrontations.
The unrest has highlighted growing resentment among Nepal’s youth, who accuse the political elite of failing to address corruption, unemployment, and governance failures. Observers say the violent turn of the protests marks one of the most serious challenges faced by the Nepali Congress government in recent years.
