New Delhi: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Wednesday suspended its official recognition of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), citing serious governance deficiencies and administrative failures within the national sports body. The ministry has instructed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to form an ad-hoc committee to manage the day-to-day administration of the sport across the country until a properly elected governing body is restored.
In its official order, the ministry highlighted TTFI’s failure to conduct timely executive elections as a primary reason for the regulatory action. The suspension follows a show-cause notice previously issued to the federation, to which the ministry received what it characterized as an “unsatisfactory response.”
To ensure uninterrupted training and competition pathways for Indian athletes, the IOA will work in coordination with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to establish an internal interim regulatory mechanism. The ad-hoc committee will oversee national tournaments, selection processes, and athlete support systems while steps are taken to restore valid governance structures within TTFI in compliance with the National Sports Development Code.
