Mumbai: In a major leadership transition, opener Shubman Gill has been appointed as captain of the Indian ODI team for the upcoming tour of Australia, replacing Rohit Sharma at the helm. The move signals a gradual generational shift in Indian cricket, while maintaining the presence of senior players.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member ODI squad on Saturday, which includes stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, indicating a blend of youth and experience. Shreyas Iyer has been named the vice-captain for the three-match ODI series.

Fast-bowling ace Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the ODI leg to manage his workload, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, known for his recent explosive T20 form, returns to the 50-over setup. The ODIs are scheduled between October 19 and 25 in Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne, followed by a five-match T20I series.
