New Delhi— Fresh off his historic Test series against England, Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of the North Zone team for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, starting August 28.
Gill, 24, recently led India to a 2-2 draw against England in a grueling five-match Test series, scoring 754 runs — the second-highest by an Indian in a single series after Sunil Gavaskar’s 774 in 1971.
The Duleep Trophy marks the start of the 2025-26 Indian domestic season and returns to its zonal format. North Zone will play East Zone in their opener, with the final scheduled for September 11, just a day after India begins its Asia Cup campaign in the UAE.
The squad also includes India pacer Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Anshul Kamboj, among others. Backups Shubman Rohilla, Gurnoor Brar, and Anul Thakral have been named in case any selected players are called for national duty during the Asia Cup.
