Thiruvananthapuram: Football fans in Kerala have reason to celebrate as Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman on Saturday confirmed that Argentina’s national football team — featuring their iconic captain Lionel Messi — will be visiting the state for a friendly fixture this November.

The minister announced after the Argentina Football Association (AFA) revealed that the world champions, led by coach Lionel Scaloni, will play exhibition matches in Luanda, Angola, and Kerala later this year.

Speaking to reporters, Abdurahiman said that the state government had formally approached AFA earlier, requesting that one of the matches be held in October or November. With the confirmation now in place, the minister described it as a “historic moment” for Kerala and for football fans across India.

The visit will mark Messi’s first appearance in the state, adding to the anticipation. Authorities are now working on logistical arrangements to host the event, which is expected to draw thousands of supporters and attract global attention.

Further details about the venue, ticketing, and security measures are likely to be announced in the coming weeks.
