New Delhi: India wrapped up their two-match Test series against the West Indies with a seven-wicket victory on the final morning of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, sealing a 2-0 clean sweep. The hosts chased down the remaining runs comfortably, led by a composed half-century from KL Rahul.
Needing just 58 more to win on Day 5, India resumed play at 63 for 2, with Rahul and Dhruv Jurel at the crease. The West Indies bowlers struck early when Roston Chase had Sai Sudharsan caught at first slip by Shai Hope, briefly reviving their hopes of delaying the inevitable. But Rahul steadied the innings, mixing solid defence with measured aggression against spin.
Shubman Gill, who had led from the front with a fine century in the first innings, looked to finish the job quickly but was dismissed attempting a big shot. Despite the early breakthroughs, India crossed the finish line just under an hour into the day’s play to complete a clinical series triumph.
The West Indies showed commendable improvement from the opening Test in Ahmedabad, which ended inside three days. After being bowled out for under 50 overs in both innings of that match, the visitors nearly doubled their time at the crease in Delhi. Their spirited resistance in the second innings, led by John Campbell’s 113 and Shai Hope’s 103, helped them post a fighting 390, forcing the game into the final day.
Even so, India’s first-innings dominance—powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 175, Gill’s unbeaten 129, and Sai Sudharsan’s 87—proved too much to overcome. The bowling attack, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah (3/44) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/104), ensured India maintained control despite West Indies’ improved batting effort.
While the tourists can take heart from their second-innings fightback and the composure shown by their middle order, India’s consistency with both bat and ball throughout the series underscored their superiority at home.
