Glasgow: A Glasgow-based Indian restaurant has apologised and announced that it will redesign its logo after Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain highlighted what she described as an incorrect depiction of India’s map during a visit by the country’s Commonwealth Games contingent.

The issue came to light after members of the Indian boxing team visited Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry to celebrate their successful campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026, where Indian boxers secured an impressive 10 medals, including seven golds and three silvers.

Lovlina Points Out Missing North-East

A video from the restaurant, which has since gone viral on social media, shows Lovlina drawing attention to a map printed on the restaurant’s napkin. The Olympic medallist observed that India’s North-Eastern region was missing from the design and said a similar depiction was also displayed outside the restaurant.

Expressing her concern, the Assam-born boxer said the omission was hurtful, especially for people from the North-East, and appealed to the management to ensure the map was corrected in the future.

The video quickly gained traction online, prompting widespread discussion and criticism from several social media users.

Restaurant Issues Public Apology

Following the controversy, the restaurant released a public statement expressing regret over the design and clarified that there was no intention to offend anyone.

The management said it has always taken pride in its Indian heritage and sincerely apologised for using an inaccurate representation of the country’s map. It also confirmed that immediate steps would be taken to replace the logo with a corrected version.

The restaurant added that it was honoured to host India’s athletes after their successful Commonwealth Games campaign and said serving the contingent had been a memorable experience for the establishment.

Instagram Account No Longer Accessible

Shortly after issuing its apology, the restaurant’s official Instagram account became unavailable, with the page no longer accessible to users. However, no official statement has been issued explaining whether the account was removed temporarily or permanently.

The incident has once again highlighted the sensitivity surrounding the accurate depiction of India’s territorial boundaries, particularly concerning the North-Eastern region, while also drawing attention to the importance of cultural and geographical accuracy in public branding.
