Gurdaspur: Two members of the Punjab Police lost their lives in a shooting incident in Gurdaspur district on Sunday, triggering a high-level probe into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The deceased have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ashok Kumar and Home Guard jawan Gurnam Singh. Both were posted at the same police outpost and were on duty in the area at the time of the incident.
According to initial information, the firing took place in Adia village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Dorangala police station. The two officers were reportedly shot and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aditya rushed to the village soon after receiving information about the incident. Forensic teams and senior officers are examining the site to determine how the shooting unfolded. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the attack was carried out by unidentified assailants or if other factors were involved.
The bodies of ASI Ashok Kumar and Gurnam Singh have been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Officials said the autopsy findings are expected to provide further clarity on the sequence of events.
Police have cordoned off the area and launched an extensive investigation. Efforts are underway to collect evidence, question potential witnesses, and establish the motive behind the killings.
