Mohali: Punjab Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the murder case of Gurvinder Singh, who was shot dead outside the Mohali SSP office, with the arrest of two accused who allegedly assisted the shooters. The arrests come as part of an ongoing investigation into the high-profile killing that took place last month.
The arrested accused have been identified as Baltej Singh alias Bunty, a resident of Tehna village in Faridkot district, and Mangat Singh alias Max, a resident of Jalalabad. Police have also recovered the motorcycle and car used in the crime.
Providing details, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans said the incident occurred on January 28, when Gurvinder Singh had come to the Mohali court to attend a hearing. After the court proceedings, while he was standing on the road outside the court complex, unidentified assailants opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. Gurvinder Singh’s wife was present with him at the time of the attack but escaped unharmed.
The SSP said that soon after the murder, gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the killing through a social media post. Given the seriousness of the case, police are conducting a detailed investigation and are carrying out raids to trace and arrest other accused involved in the conspiracy. The arrested individuals are being interrogated, and further disclosures are expected.
During the investigation, Baltej Singh alias Bunty was arrested and revealed that he was driving a Uttar Pradesh-registered Honda Amaze car in which the main accused fled after the crime. The vehicle was later recovered from his possession. Further probe revealed that Mangat Singh alias Max had provided logistical support to the shooters and arranged both the motorcycle and the car used in the murder.
Police said efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend the remaining accused linked to the case.
