Patna: Twenty-two people, including 15 women, were arrested on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a cyber-fraud racket operating in Bihar’s Patna district, police said.

The arrests were made during coordinated raids at three locations—Lakhan Kutir, Ved Nagar and Saubhagya Sharma Path—in the Saguna Mor and Rupaspur areas of the city.

Cyber Police Station DSP Sangeeta said the action followed inputs received from the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) about illegal call centres being run to carry out cyber fraud. “Based on specific information, raids were conducted at three locations, leading to the arrest of 15 women and seven men,” she told reporters.

During the operation, police seized 19 laptops, one desktop computer, 53 mobile phones, 12 ATM cards and several incriminating documents.

According to the police, the accused primarily targeted cyber café owners. “They downloaded data and used calling teams to contact potential victims. The gang cheated people by offering fake B2B services and promising to set up Aadhaar centres,” the DSP said.

She added that the women arrested were paid between ₹8,000 and ₹10,000 per month and were mainly tasked with making calls to lure clients. Preliminary investigation suggests the gang had been operating for the past 12 to 18 months.

Police said further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to trace and arrest other members linked to the racket.
