Chandigarh: Industrialist and Trident Group chairman Rajinder Gupta has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha after the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers ended on Thursday afternoon.

Gupta, who filed his nomination as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, secured the seat without contest after an independent candidate’s papers were rejected over alleged forgery of recommendation signatures.

With no other valid nominations remaining, the Election Commission formally declared Gupta elected to the Upper House.

Gupta, a prominent entrepreneur known for his contributions to Punjab’s textile and paper industries, is expected to bring his corporate experience to national policymaking. His election marks another key addition to AAP’s representation in Parliament from Punjab.
