Jalandhar: A devastating weather-related accident claimed the lives of a father and his young daughter in Jalandhar on Sunday morning after a severe storm swept through parts of Punjab. The tragic incident occurred as sudden heavy rainfall and intense winds uprooted a large tree, which collapsed directly onto the motorcycle the two victims were travelling on.
Local authorities identified the deceased as forty-year-old Kashmir, widely known in the area as Billa, and his twelve-year-old daughter, Sonali. The fatal accident took place within Tode Saparai village, located in the Jalandhar Cantonment jurisdiction. Witnesses reported that the intense force of the gale caused the tree to fall unexpectedly, leaving the father and daughter with no time to escape the impact.
The unexpected shift in weather conditions brought varying degrees of precipitation and heavy winds to multiple districts across the state, including Jalandhar, Pathankot, and parts of Ludhiana. In response to the volatile conditions, the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh issued an urgent thunderstorm and lightning warning for sectors of Mansa and Bathinda, anticipating wind speeds reaching forty to sixty kilometres per hour.
In light of the fatal accident and ongoing weather instability, local administrative authorities have issued a public safety advisory. Residents living in the storm-affected zones are strongly encouraged to remain indoors during active squalls and have been warned specifically against seeking temporary shelter beneath trees or near structurally compromised setups.
