Amritsar: A devastating road accident near Mahalan Bridge on the Amritsar Bypass late last night claimed the lives of three young men, while another was left critically injured. Police said the incident occurred around 1:30 am when a speeding car coming from Lopo Ke village went out of control and crashed with such force that its engine was thrown nearly 100 metres away.

According to officials present at the spot, four youths were travelling in the car. The impact was so severe that three of them died instantly. Police confirmed the deceased as Jobanpreet of Chak Mishri Khan, Jaskaran Singh Billa of Lopo Ke, and Avtar Singh of Boparai Baj Kalan. The fourth youth, identified as a resident of Chak Mishri Khan and known locally as Sunni, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

Residents living near the bypass woke up to the loud sound of the collision and immediately informed the police and emergency services. A police team reached the scene and has now opened an investigation into the accident. Officers said the condition of the vehicle indicates that overspeeding was the primary cause, but a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the exact circumstances.
