Jalandhar: The Punjab Police have registered three additional First Information Reports in connection with the widespread unrest and vandalism at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, taking the total tally of cases to four. The legal actions follow violent demonstrations over the weekend that resulted in highway blockades, property destruction, and clashes on campus. Two cases have been lodged at the Satnampura police station and two at the Sadar police station in Phagwara, addressing separate offences including the disruption of traffic on National Highway 44, arson, and extensive damage to private and institutional infrastructure.
Investigators have formed a dedicated seven-member special team to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incidents. As part of the ongoing probe, police personnel revisited Girls’ Hostel-3, which emerged as a key focal point during the initial protests. Officers questioned numerous students and formally recorded their written statements alongside depositions from hostel wardens, on-duty security staff, and university administrative personnel.
The scope of the investigation has also broadened beyond the immediate university perimeter. Police teams are reviewing accommodation records and speaking with students residing in paying guest facilities across the surrounding Satnampura area. Forensic examiners and investigators have seized digital video recording devices and extensive CCTV footage from multiple campus locations, including administrative blocks and commercial areas, to identify individuals involved in inciting unrest and vandalizing property.
University operations remain under tight security protocols, with classes temporarily suspended and authorities working to verify facts surrounding the initial allegations that led to the unrest. Law enforcement officials stated that the seven-member team is coordinating closely with campus administration to examine all available digital and eyewitness evidence before taking further legal action against unidentified individuals named in the complaints.
