Mansa: A promising young athlete, 20-year-old Navdeep Singh, was found dead on Friday in Mansa town, with his family alleging that a drug overdose claimed his life. A resident of municipal ward 3, Navdeep was a decorated kickboxer who had earned gold medals at the state government’s Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan in 2024 and the Punjab State Senior Kickboxing Championship the previous year. His father, Jaspal Singh, a daily wager, has called for immediate police action against those responsible for providing the substances that led to the death of his only son.

According to family members, Navdeep had been working as an air-conditioner mechanic in the Rara Sahib area of Ludhiana and had returned to his hometown just three days prior to the incident. He reportedly left for the local market on Thursday, but his body was discovered the following day near Arya School. The young boxer is survived by his parents and two sisters.

The Mansa City-II police have taken formal note of the allegations. Inspector Gurtej Singh, the Station House Officer, confirmed that a case has been registered against unidentified individuals under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the father’s complaint. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances of the death and to identify those involved in the local drug trade.
