Khanna (Punjab)— At least 10 people, mostly students, were injured in a major road accident near McDonald’s on the National Highway in Khanna on Tuesday when a speeding truck-trailer jumped the divider and rammed into a Punjab Roadways bus coming from the opposite direction.
The collision was so powerful that the front portion of both vehicles was severely damaged, causing panic among passengers and leading to a massive traffic jam on the busy stretch.
Eyewitnesses said the trailer was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road when the driver lost control, crashed through the divider, and collided head-on with the bus traveling from Ludhiana to Patiala.
Teams from City Police Station-2, the Road Safety Force (RSF), and the 108 Ambulance Service rushed to the scene soon after the incident to carry out rescue operations and provide medical aid to the injured. The injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities temporarily diverted traffic to clear the route and restore movement on the highway. Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and identify whether negligence or overspeeding was involved.
