SGPC Chief Dhami Accuses New Akali Dal President Giani Harpreet Singh of ‘Pre-Planned Drama’

Amritsar (Punjab): Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has sharply criticised the appointment of Giani Harpreet Singh as the new Shiromani Akali Dal president, alleging that it was the result of a long-standing ambition and a premeditated plan.

Dhami described the leadership change as a “conspiracy” and “pre-planned drama”, claiming that the outcome was decided well in advance. “Whatever happened yesterday was nothing but drama. The agenda was fixed well in advance,” Dhami said, citing former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra’s prior public statement — made a day earlier — naming Giani Harpreet Singh as the incoming president.

On the matter of legitimacy, Dhami stressed that only the Shiromani Akali Dal with the tarazu (weighing scale) symbol is recognised as the real party. He condemned Giani Harpreet Singh’s recent comments about taking over the SGPC, its headquarters, and the party’s election symbol, calling them “extremely unfortunate.”

Dhami also reaffirmed that the SGPC is “fully prepared” for the upcoming SGPC elections.
