Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday announced that the party will organise public screenings of the film Satluj, based on the life and sacrifice of human rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra, in villages and towns across Punjab.

Sharing the announcement on social media, Badal said the initiative aims to educate the younger generation about the sacrifices of Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra and thousands of Sikh youths, as well as what he described as the atrocities committed against the Sikh community during the Congress regime.

He said the Shiromani Akali Dal would ensure that Satluj reaches every village and corner of Punjab so that future generations become aware of the injustices and oppression faced by Sikhs.

Badal described the film as depicting a painful chapter in Sikh history, including Operation Blue Star, the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, and the alleged fake police encounters during the militancy period in Punjab.

He also alleged that attempts are being made to stop people from learning about that period through films like Satluj. According to Badal, the SAD will continue to take the film to people across the state through public screenings and will not allow what he called efforts to suppress this part of history.
