Amritsar: The much-anticipated film “Hind Ki Chadar,” based on the life of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, will not be released today (November 21), the producers of the film announced. The decision follows objections raised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) regarding content that could hurt Sikh sentiments.
Produced by Baweja Studios, the film was scheduled to mark the centenary celebrations of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. However, after reviewing the movie, a film investigation committee submitted its report to the Akal Takht Sahib, prompting the SGPC to advise against its release.
In a letter to Acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj, Baweja Studios requested that the Akal Takht point out any inaccuracies or flaws in the film. The studio also shared the update on its social media platforms.
SGPC Cites Sensitivities Around Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s Martyrdom Anniversary
Sardar Kulwant Singh Mannan, Chief Secretary of the SGPC, said the film’s portrayal could potentially offend the Sikh community. “Such presentations not only hurt Sikh sentiments but may also trigger controversy. Releasing an animated film that deviates from core principles during the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is inappropriate,” Mannan stated.
The committee’s review appears to have played a decisive role in the postponement, emphasizing the need to respect historical accuracy and community sentiments.
Baweja Studios’ Previous Success with Sikh History
Baweja Studios had earlier produced “Chaar Sahibzaade,” an animated film on Sikh history that received widespread appreciation from the Sikh community. Both the script and the music, composed by Punjabi artists, were highly praised, and the film remains a benchmark for historical animation in Indian cinema.
While the release of “Hind Ki Chadar” has been delayed, the studio has indicated a willingness to make corrections based on feedback from the Akal Takht and SGPC, aiming to align the film with historical and religious sensitivities.
