Chandigarh: The Punjab State Women’s Commission has initiated action against Punjabi music artists Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh, citing allegedly objectionable lyrics in their latest songs that are currently trending on social media platforms.

In an official letter addressed to the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), the Commission has demanded an inquiry into Aujla’s track “MF Gabru” and Singh’s song “Millionaire”. The Commission has described the lyrics in both songs as demeaning to women and accused the artists of promoting content that undermines women’s dignity.

Chairperson of the Commission has called the lyrics “objectionable” and urged authorities to take immediate legal action. The Commission has also sought a formal report on the steps taken by 11 AM on August 11, emphasizing the need for swift action in line with the law.

The move comes amid growing concern over the portrayal of women in popular Punjabi music and repeated appeals from civil society for stricter scrutiny of digital content.
