Chandigarh: The Punjab State Women Commission has taken suo motu notice of a shocking incident involving a 19-year-old girl from Jalandhar. Chairperson Raj Lali Gill has directed the authorities to submit a detailed report within 48 hours.
The case came to light after Gurmanjot Kaur, a resident of Jalandhar, alleged that she was drugged and subsequently sexually assaulted at Uppal Farm. Adding to her ordeal, the accused allegedly recorded a video of the assault and circulated it on social media platforms, intensifying the trauma faced by the survivor.
Expressing deep concern, Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said that crimes of this nature cannot be tolerated in Punjab and assured that justice will be pursued swiftly. She emphasized that the matter involves not only a grave crime against an individual but also a violation of the dignity and safety of women across the state.
The Commission has formally written to the local police, asking them to provide a complete status report on the investigation, including actions taken against those responsible for circulating the video.
Meanwhile, women’s rights activists have demanded strict action against the perpetrators, stating that such cases highlight the urgent need for stronger mechanisms to protect women from both sexual crimes and cyber harassment.
The police investigation is underway, and more details are expected once the report is submitted to the Commission.
