Chandigarh: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has granted Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu additional time to present his side in connection with a complaint alleging the use of casteist remarks during a visit to Dhuri.
Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said that Bittu had been summoned by the Commission on Thursday in relation to the matter. However, the Union Minister did not appear personally before the panel.
Instead, advocates Ramandeep Singh and A.S. Barnala appeared on his behalf and requested additional time to submit the minister’s response and arguments before the Commission.
Accepting the request, the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission adjourned the proceedings and fixed June 15, 2026, at 11 am as the next date of hearing.
The case pertains to allegations that casteist words were used during Bittu’s visit to Dhuri. The Commission is examining the complaint and has sought an explanation from the Union Minister regarding the allegations.
The matter will now be taken up on June 15, when Bittu is expected to present his side before the Commission.
