Punjab Police Officers Honoured with President’s and Meritorious Service Medals on 79th Independence Day

Chandigarh: On the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India announced the names of several Punjab Police officers who have been selected for the prestigious President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PMDS) and the Medal for Meritorious Service (MMS), in recognition of their outstanding contributions to policing and public service.

Two officers from Punjab Police have been honoured with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. The awardees include MF Farooqui, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), State Armed Police, Punjab, and Inspector Suresh Kumar from Counter Intelligence, Ludhiana. Their recognition highlights their long-standing commitment to ensuring security and upholding the rule of law in the state.

In the category of Medal for Meritorious Service, the list features Gurdial Singh, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Intelligence-II, and Gurpreet Singh, Punjab Police Service (PPS), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at SSOC Amritsar. Alongside them, 12 other police officers and officials have also been honoured for their professional excellence and dedication to duty.

The list includes Inspector Satinder Kumar, Inspector Deepak Kumar, Inspector Jagdeep Singh, Inspector Tejinderpal Singh, Sub-Inspector (SI) Amrik Singh, SI Sanjiv Kumar, SI Amritpal Singh, SI Anil Kumar, SI Bhupinder Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jaswinderjit Singh, ASI Kuldeep Singh, and SI Krishan Kumar.

Extending his congratulations, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, thanked both the Central and State Governments for recognising the relentless service of Punjab Police officers. “This recognition strengthens the morale of the entire force and motivates us to serve with renewed dedication, which is crucial for a border state facing diverse security challenges,” said DGP Yadav.

The medals come as a significant morale booster for Punjab Police, which continues to play a vital role in tackling terrorism, drug trafficking, and organised crime, while also maintaining law and order across the state.

The recognition of these officers not only brings pride to the Punjab Police force but also reflects the commitment of the Government of India towards acknowledging those who work tirelessly to safeguard peace and security.
