Chandigarh — The Punjab government has postponed Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad elections, which were scheduled to be completed by October 5. The polls will now be held by December 5, 2025.

A notification issued by the Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department on Thursday confirmed the deferment. Sources indicated that the decision was taken in view of the prevailing flood situation in the state, which has disrupted normal life and administrative preparedness.

The last Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad elections in Punjab were held in September 2018.
