Chandigarh: In a major New Year initiative for Punjabis, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved the launch of the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme, which will come into effect from January, aiming to provide comprehensive and cashless healthcare coverage to every family in the state.
Under the scheme, each family in Punjab will be entitled to cashless medical treatment worth up to ₹10 lakh. Chairing a meeting of the Health Department, the Chief Minister said the initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring quality healthcare without any financial burden on citizens. He added that Punjab will become the first state in the country to guarantee cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh for every family.
The scheme has been designed to ensure easy and universal access to healthcare services for all residents. Beneficiaries will be able to avail treatment at an extensive network of empanelled government and private hospitals across Punjab and Chandigarh. The coverage includes treatment for major diseases, critical care, surgeries and other life-saving medical procedures.
Officials said that all expenses related to hospitalisation will be fully covered under the scheme. This includes costs incurred before and after admission, surgical procedures, ICU and critical care services, diagnostic tests, medicines, and approved medical packages, along with consumables used during treatment.
Chief Minister Mann emphasised that the government is committed to building a strong and inclusive healthcare system where no citizen is deprived of treatment due to lack of money. He said the scheme reflects the state’s resolve to make quality healthcare a basic right rather than a privilege.
The Health Department has been directed to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme so that people can start availing its benefits from January without any delay.
