Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra held an administrative briefing in Chandigarh with representatives from all major recognized political parties to outline the impending Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Designed to modernize and clean up the state’s voter databases ahead of future legislative cycles, the intensive project is set to commence with a massive, month-long house-to-house enumeration and verification campaign across all districts starting Thursday.

According to the official statutory schedule mandated by the Election Commission of India, the door-to-door field operation will remain active from June 25 through July 24. A designated task force consisting of 24,453 Booth Level Officers will systematically visit domestic residences across Punjab to distribute, verify, and collect standardized enumeration forms to update information for more than 21.4 million registered voters. Concurrently, election authorities will execute a structural rationalisation of regional polling stations, ensuring physical infrastructure is optimized by the July 24 institutional deadline.

The Chief Electoral Officer informed party delegates that preliminary technical pre-mapping has already been successfully concluded for approximately 86 per cent of the total state electorate. To accelerate the remaining verification brackets, the state election office shared detailed lists of unmapped regional voters with party functionaries, urging them to immediately deploy localized Booth Level Agents to assist field teams. Following the conclusion of the door-to-door drive, the draft electoral rolls will be officially published on August 3, opening a regulatory window for citizens to submit claims and objections until September 2, before the final, legally verified electoral rolls are formally published on October 1, 2026. The planning session included high-level organizational representatives from the Aam Aadmi Party, Indian National Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, and Bahujan Samaj Party.
